BA Comedy students celebrate final year with a series of new performances

Starting 11 May, SparkFest will take over the city of Bath for five weeks, showcasing an exciting run of thrilling performances from students, alumni, staff and collaborators across the School of Music and Performing Arts at Bath Spa University.

As part of the festival, final year students of BA Comedy will be performing a selection of brilliant new shows they’ve written whilst studying.

Esther Atkins, BA Comedy student, said:

“Uprooting my life in Australia to be part of what has become an exclusive little club in Bath, better known as BA Comedy, has been a life changing experience. From all the things I’ve learned to the friends I’ve made; I owe it all to this crazy little course for the person I’ve become and who I’m going to be. I’m so excited for the shows I get to work on in Sparkfest knowing how it will set me up for my future.”

Harry Bolton, BA Comedy student, said:

“BA Comedy has allowed me to develop and grow so much as a performer. I now have the skills, training and industry links to debut my first one-man cabaret, Talking Beds. My favourite part of my time here though has been meeting the other half of my double act. We now frequently host gigs, perform our act and even have launched our podcast 'sexless marriage'.”

BA Comedy student Roo Sutcliffe added:

“I feel so lucky that I was able to be a part of this special little course. It's so different to any other degree and I am so pleased that we managed to get there in time to be in the final year of it. It's been a brilliant and bizarre three years. And just so much fun.

Only comedy students can understand the bond of being on such an intimate and unique course together. I owe so much to this Uni, we've grown up in those rehearsal rooms, making each other laugh. Thank you, Bath Spa University.”
